After the good stories about the Kimberley, Australia we decide to make the trip ourselves. With a Toyota LandCruiser HDJ79 we drive the 9280km from Darwin to Perth in 5 weeks.
The route leads from Darwin via Litchfield NP, Kakadu NP, Katharine Gorge NP, Keep River NP, Duncan Highway, Bungle Bungle, Pernululu NP, Lake Argyle, Wyndham, the Gibb River Road, Mitchell Falls, Windjana Gorge NP, Geikie Gorge NP , Cape Leveque, Broom, Karijni, Exmounth, Carnarvon, Monkey Mia, Prancois Peron NP, Kalbari NP, Lesueng NP, Mambung NP, Swan Valley to Perth.
Most roads are bad and especially the endless "washboard" roads are a major attack on the car. Apart from a flat tire, shaking and vibrating will cause damage to the car. Eventually the hinge of the lifting roof collapses and the back door only opens with force.
The trip on the Gibb River Road (660 km) and the Duncan Highway (443 km) is special. Both roads are unpaved and there are hardly any facilities. Taking enough fuel, food and water is a must here.
The Kimberley and the West Coast of Australia have left us with an unforgettable impression.
